Canada and European Union Leaders Visit Genesis during Canada-EU Leaders’ Summit

St. John’s, NL, November 28, 2023: Genesis and six of its portfolio companies were featured as part of the 19th Canada-European Union (EU) Leaders’ Summit, which took place last week in the historic City of St. John’s. The summit was an opportunity for Prime Minister Trudeau to host the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. Over the course of the visit, the delegation met with six Newfoundland and Labrador-based companies whose missions align with that of the summit: creating jobs and opportunities; fighting climate change and halting biodiversity loss; increasing collaboration on technology, research, and innovation; and building sustainable and resilient economies.

The leaders participated in an immersive tour of Genesis where they learned about the organization’s mission, its history and the success of its companies. The six companies the leaders met with were:

The summit gave the opportunity for the delegates to see examples of the globally competitive companies produced and supported in Canada, many of whom are already successfully serving European markets. In 2022, trade in Canada-EU combined goods and services reached a value of $147.0 billion, which include exports from Canadian technology companies.

Michelle Simms, President & CEO of Genesis, saw this visit as an opportunity to showcase Genesis portfolio companies on a global stage. “Technology companies in Newfoundland and Labrador are global leaders in food sustainability, combatting climate change, enhancing financial intelligence capabilities and increasing collaboration between industries.
