Brendan Brothers and Elizabeth Kidd Join Genesis Board of Directors

Two more local industry experts have been named to Genesis’ Board of Directors this month. Brendan Brothers, Executive Vice President and Head of Nasdaq’s Anti-Financial Crime (AFC) division and Elizabeth Kidd, President and Chief Executive Officer at College of the North Atlantic, round out an impressive suite of directors that represent diverse sectors of the Newfoundland and Labrador business and academic community.

As a software engineer and co-founder of Verafin, which completed Genesis’ Enterprise program from 2003-2006, Brendan has used his expertise to support all aspects of the company since its inception in 2003. In February 2021, Verafin was acquired by Nasdaq.

As EVP and Head of Nasdaq’s Anti-Financial Crime (AFC) division, Brendan’s company provides anti-financial crime management solutions used by thousands of banks, exchange operators, and other financial institutions. With a strategic approach, he guides AFC teams toward a shared vision to protect the world’s financial interactions.

With his specialized knowledge of robotics, behavior-based analytics, and probabilistic networks, combined with nearly 20 years of deep-domain expertise in anti-financial crime, Brendan is considered an industry expert and thought leader on innovative approaches to combat fraud and money laundering.

Brendan graduated from Memorial University of Newfoundland in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering and was presented with an honorary Doctor of Laws degree by the university in 2022.

Her ability to foster collaborative relationships was evident in her successful negotiations for the Qatar contract and improved union relations with NAPE.

Elizabeth's expertise extends beyond finance. As a LEAN Executive Green Belt, she initiated process improvements that enhanced college operations. Her involvement in the design of the Heavy Equipment Centre of Excellence in Bay St. George highlights her commitment to academic advancement.

Fluent in English and French, Kidd's diverse skill set includes contract negotiations, crisis management, and health and wellness strategies. Her professional background includes pivotal roles at College Boreal and Hudson's Bay Company, where she honed her operational and leadership capabilities.

Educationally, Elizabeth holds a Bachelor of Business Administration with Honours from St. Francis Xavier University and a Chartered Accountant Designation from Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada.
