In 1901, Guglielmo Marconi received the first Transatlantic signal from the top of Signal Hill. In 1995, Great Big Sea moved into the same space in which Genesis currently resides recording multiple chart toppers and becoming a Newfoundland icon.
Not long after Great Big Sea, the space was home to ZeddComm, now known as Bluedrop (TSX-V: BPL), an e-learning company with more than 200 employees. After Bluedrop was Cathexis (now Radient360), a Genesis graduate that secured its first major contract with a large oil & gas company before leaving what would become Genesis’ home.
Genesis’ home is in the Emera Innovation Exchange (EIX), located on Memorial University’s Signal Hill Campus, formerly known as the Battery, yet still steeped in history. The EIX is Memorial’s new public engagement and innovation space. Along with Genesis, you can find Memorial’s Gardiner Centre, Harris Centre, and Office of Public Engagement, as well as Business and Arts NL. There are amazing opportunities for future collaborations between these entities.
Having moved to the Emera Innovation Exchange in August 2018, this space allows Genesis to continue to grow. This office is open concept, modern and collaborative, and has enabled Genesis to foster a stronger community and culture for start-ups.
