Founded in 1997 and affiliated with Memorial University, Genesis has been supporting tech founders in Newfoundland & Labrador ever since. The companies that came out of that work include Verafin, Mysa, HeyOrca, and Spellbook, part of why the province has a tech sector worth talking about.
Residency exists for the next generation of founders. The Council brings the judgment of people who've built venture-scale companies from here, so the founders coming up don't have to leave to do it.
Admission
Admissions into Residency are decided by the Founders' Council. Genesis identifies founders ready for Residency and reaches out. There's no cold application. From there, it's a one-page application and a 20-minute conversation with the Council, not a pitch. The Council votes. The cohort stays small on purpose.
The work
Founders are accepted for one year, with annual renewal decided by the Council. Bi-weekly peer sessions and quarterly Council meetings keep the work moving.
Terms
Residency members pay regular Genesis Membership fees, nothing more. Equity agreements with Genesis are open to Residency companies, but no equity or royalty is required.
