Memorial University’s Genesis Centre and NEIA to enter into partnership

Memorial University’s Genesis Centre and the Newfoundland and Labrador Environmental Industry Association (NEIA) have entered into a formal partnership, the purpose of which is to collaborate in relation to delivering entrepreneurial programming in Newfoundland and Labrador.

“The recent focus on clean technology from governments and their agencies has created a new public awareness about the importance of achieving better environmental outcomes in business,” said Kieran Hanley, executive director, NEIA. “We believe that this will contribute to a new interest from entrepreneurs and result in the emergence of more clean technology startups.”

Memorial University’s Genesis Centre to host premier startup event

Memorial University’s Genesis Centre will host Atlantic Canada’s premier startup conference from Sept. 19-20.

Invest Atlantic brings together the entrepreneurial spirit of Atlantic Canada.

The conference, which begins on Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 8:30 a.m. at the Sheraton Hotel Newfoundland, has three main goals: collaboration, innovation and globalization.

Interactive speakers will coach entrepreneurs in pitching and building their business; connect angel investors with Atlantic Canadian startups; and encourage collaboration among attendees.

Genesis Remix event tomorrow

The Genesis Centre will hold its first demo day event on Friday, Aug. 18, to showcase its portfolio companies. The first portion of the event will feature a corporate pitch competition, where the tables will be turned on local corporate innovators. These representatives will “pitch” their services and how they can assist entrepreneurs. There will also be a demonstration space where Genesis portfolio companies display their various products and/or services.

Genesis Centre’s Pitch & Pick Winter 2017

Media representatives are invited to attend the Genesis Centre’s Pitch & Pick scheduled for 2-5 p.m., Friday, April 28, at The Fifth Ticket, 171 Water St., in St. John’s.

Six local startups with big business ideas will pitch their ventures to an audience that includes investors and public funding agencies who will pick the top three winners.

Cash prizes totalling $1,000 will also be awarded. The event is part of the Genesis Centre’s Evolution Program for early-stage business startups and companies that want to apply to Memorial’s award-winning business incubator.
