Code Mobile on the Rock First Locations Announced!
Think: a computer lab on wheels (Canada’s first coding truck)!
But, it’s more than just a truck or a computer lab. It’s a cross-Canada journey that will bring hands-on, interactive technology education to Canadian youth. We believe that computer programming and other technical skills are a tool of empowerment, and it is our mission to ensure that all Canadians -- particularly women and youth -- have access to these learning opportunities.
From late June to early July 2016, the code:mobile will visit Newfoundland coast to coast, teaching workshops in St. John's, Carbonear, Gander, Corner Brook, and Bay St. George. St. John's will be the first stop, from June 25 - 27, with some excellent events planned!
Do you know a child who is interested in learning more about technology and coding? If so, have I got exciting news for you! Memorial University’s Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science has been identified as an official stop on the Ladies Learning Code code:mobile national tour! This computer lab on wheels and its team of dynamic mentors will be here on Memorial’s St. John’s campus on Monday, June 27, 2016.
There will be two workshops, each geared to a different age range. From 8:30am – 10:00am, the team will be offering a workshop for 9-12 year olds called Storytelling with Scratch. From 10:30 am – 12:00pm, they will be delivering a workshop for 13 -15 year olds called Game Design with Scratch. These workshops will be held in the Engineering Building, room EN1000.
This event will also include a special guest: Liberal MP Seamus O'Regan! We are excited to have Mr. O'Regan with us to see the next generation of our province's coders!
There is no fee for these workshops, however the tour does come at a cost and they welcome donations. To learn more about this initiative, please visit the link below.
Seats for the workshops will be filled on a first come, first serve basis.
We hope you are as excited about this opportunity as we are. Let’s get coding!
