Today, Monday, May 9th, marks the start of the third annual Innovation Week here in Newfoundland and Labrador. The Genesis Centre and its partners are heavily involved in hosting events throughout the week, the main goal of which is to spread the word of incredible innovations in this province by bringing together public and private stakeholders, grassroots organizations, and start-up companies.
The week is chock-full of events, beginning with the Innovation Week NL 2016 kickoff event at Common Ground at 9 AM on Monday. The Centre and its partners attended the event to help promote the events throughout the week.
On Tuesday, the Centre is hosting two events. The first is a Lean Methodology and Value Proposition workshop being lead by Genesis Centre Venture Lead Dana Parsons at the NLOWE Training Room in Regatta Plaza. That same morning, the Centre is joined by the College of the North Atlantic and NATI to host a Youth in Tech Conference at the CNA campus on Prince Phillip Drive. This event promises to be very exciting, as nearly 400 grade nine students will attend, and hear presentations from a variety of exciting speakers, including current and former Genesis Centre client companies.
On Wednesday, Genesis is hosting an event at the Delta featuring Director of Global Business Development for the TSX and TSX Venture Exchange, Robert Peterman, which promises to be interesting. Following that event, the Centre will host a Pitch Camp training event for its clients at the Centre itself on Thursday, hosted by the amazing Kathleen Kennedy, President of the MIT Technology Review. These exciting events provide start-ups and other innovators in the province with information regarding going public and effective pitch strategies.
Finally, on Friday, the Genesis Centre will be hosting its marquee event for the week, Tales from Entrepreneurs on Tap, at Bitters Pub on Memorial University of Newfoundland St. John’s Campus. This event, starting at 2 PM, brings together three amazing entrepreneurs, including Karl Kenny, CEO of Kraken, Neil Chaulk, VP of Solace Power, and Carol Leaman, CEO of Axonify, to discuss their greatest successes and failures with an audience of eager listeners. This event provides a great educational and networking platform for any and all innovative entrepreneurs, and innovators of any kind, in the province. More information about our speakers and the event can be found at our RSVP Eventbrite page here.
The week will come to a close that evening with an Innovate x Conversate event taking place at Common Ground hosted by the Memorial Centre for Entrepreneurship.
