On September 14th and 15th, the Genesis Centre hosted the Canadian Digital Media Network hub meeting. Being the official hub for Newfoundland and Labrador, twenty-nine colleagues from incubators, accelerators and innovation centres from across the country joined us here at our centre. The agenda for this year’s hub meeting: how each hub can best assist digital media companies nation-wide. It was an opportunity to learn best practices from various organizations and collaborate with talented minds and industry experts. Our colleagues also toured our space, met our clients and discussed new programming options for CDMN as it moves forward.
Hub meetings, however, are not all work and visitors to the province (many of which were first timers) were given a taste of Newfoundland hospitality and local tradition – a taste that’s both fishy and odd. Each participant was officially Screeched In, kissed the cod, took a swig and uttered the unutterable. By the end of the night there were 29 new honorary Newfoundlanders and we welcome every one of them back, any time for a visit.
For many, it was a long trek to St. John’s for a few short moments of collaboration and camaraderie. In the end, we’re sure that many found the experience here both productive and invaluable. We had the privilege of hosting great minds and innovators in the entrepreneurial landscape and we had a blast doing it! We, however, are deeply sorry for the weather. But, take note, the fog is actually good for your complexion. Until we meet again!
